Reporting to the VP, Construction, the HSE Coordinator plays a key role within Nomodic’s Construction team. The HSE Coordinator leads the overall performance of Nomodic’s Safety Management System as well as the necessary administrative duties. The HSE Coordinator responsibilities include preparing Safety Execution Plans, program development and improvement, tracking and reporting statistics, vendor qualification and ensuring all  projects meet safety standards.

 

The position works closely with the site Construction Managers as well as the Project Managers and Coordinators, therefore strong communication and collaboration skills are essential.

 

The HSE Coordinator duties are to be performed at a high level of professionalism and moral standards, ensuring that the projects’ goals of safety, cost and schedule are maintained throughout the work.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

The HSE Coordinator performs some, or all of the following duties:

 

  • Safety
    • Maintain and promote the corporate Health and Safety policies and procedures
    • Report all incidents immediately to the VP of Construction and ensure that the incident reporting policies are followed
    • Participate in risk and incident reviews as applicable
  • HSE administration and document control
  • Organize and deliver safety orientations and coordinate safety training
  • Create, distribute, and present monthly safety meetings
  • Develop HSE programs and improvements
  • Complete formal and informal site inspections
    • Assist with workplace safety investigations
    • Incident management:
      • Review, revise, collect, and distribute all support documentation for signature
      • Suggest corrective actions and ensure compliance
  • HSE Statistic tracking and timely reporting on weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly basis
    • Liaise with project team and sub-contractors for information to complete HSE reports
  • WCB Claim Management
  • Project and special initiative support
    • Vendor qualification support
    • Project Safety Plans
    • Project Emergency Response Plans
  • Drug & Alcohol Testing
    • Pre-access testing
    • Incident testing
  • Management of Nomodic’s driver’s insurance
    • Adding and removing employees as required
  • Management of internal safety-related software
    • ComplyWorks
    •  WorkHub
    •  ISN
    • Avetta
  • Other duties as required

 

Qualifications

 

Education

  • Completion of post-secondary school is required (or equivalent work experience)
  • Must possess an Occupational Health and Safety Certification
  • CCOHS certification strongly preferred
  • CRSP designation, or similar, strongly preferred
  • Related safety tickets an asset
  • Must be fluent in English (written and verbal)
  • Must have minimum of valid class 5 driver’s license


Skills and Experience

  • 2+ years HSE Coordination experience, or similar
  • Experience in the commercial/industrial construction advantageous
  • Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of WCB, Hazard Identifications, Accident Investigations, and Canadian OH&S Legislation
  • Excellent planning and logistics skills
  • Adaptability and the ability to react quickly in a fast-paced environment
  • Capable user of computer tools and systems to support the role, including Microsoft Office products, and the willingness to introduce new IT tools to drive efficiencies and automation
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Strong organizational, time management, technical writing, problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • High standards of ethical conduct; ensuring the preservation of confidential and/or sensitive information
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to promote and exemplify Nomodic’s core values

  • Strong leadership skills

 

Working Conditions

  • Work weeks are 5 days, Monday to Friday, 8 hours per day, with variable times due to travel necessities and restrictions
  • Frequently exposed to noise and a regular flow of people 
  • Visits to site and client as required
  • Site visits to remote camps can include extreme heat, or cold changes as well as all outdoor conditions
  • Frequently assigned changing priorities

  

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to work in both office and field environments
  • Must be able to work on a computer for the bulk of their day
