Reporting to the Senior Vice President (SVP), the Business Development Lead plays an integral role within Nomodic’s commercial team. The Business Development Lead is responsible for the long-term success of Nomodic, by directing the corporation’s regional sales and marketing functions; acting as the essential link between Nomodic's executive and clientele is critical.  This key decision-making role involves high-level decisions on strategy, brand, and product positioning.


As a leader, the Business Development Lead is responsible for developing and nurturing all stakeholder relationships, positively motivates team members, and supports change directive within Nomodic. The role will be located in the Calgary area with regular travel and an expectation for a high volume of work through the Canadian territory.


The duties are to be performed at the highest level of professionalism and moral standard, ensuring that the organizations for safety, quality, schedule, and profit are maintained. 


There is a moderate - high possibility of travel in this role. 



Planning and Organizing

  • Collaborate with the SVP and team members within the commercial business unit to define and implement Nomodic’s strategic vision
  • Participate in the creation of annual sales and marketing plans that support the corporate direction set by the executive team
  • Present the SVP with reporting as it relates to the performance of the company’s business development, sales, and marketing efforts for the market(s) of accountability
  • Meet regularly with the SVP and Controller to ensure efficiency of company processes and adherence to corporate strategy
  • Research and analyze existing/forecasted industry and market conditions with direction and input from other business development (sales) personnel and executive
  • Research and develop new products with assistance from the commercial and operations teams
  • Identify business opportunities for the Company in existing and new markets
  • Identify and build relationships with key clients, industry experts, suppliers, sub-trades, professionals, and partners

Sales & Marketing

  • Execute on assigned initiatives and deliverables with a focus for achieving the defined objectives and key metrics
  • Formulate, implement, and maintain business development, sales and marketing strategies
  • Complete the initial due diligence on all local pursuit opportunities
  • Lead the bid and proposal process by providing commercial direction to all internal resourcing teams
  • Where required, manage and provide support to corporate human resource requirements including hiring, training, performance reviews, and terminations
  • Develop and maintain customer, vendor, consultant, and subtrades relationships
  • Assist in marketing planning efforts
  • Meet regularly with the executive team to report on target and mandate tracking and results
  • Actively participate in the creation, implementation, and maintenance of procedures as required by the SVP
  • Ensure that the commercial and operations teams, along with the SVP, have sufficient and up-to-date information
  • Locally assist corporate to research, achieve and maintain corporate and product related certifications and approvals
  • In conjunction with the Supply Chain Manager, aid with developing and the support of the Nomodic partner network
  • Various other tasks as assigned by the SVP
  • Review construction tendering sites and lead formal responses to qualified opportunities


Financial Management

  • Assist Controller in regular sales and marketing budget and forecasting inputs
  • Prudently manage Nomodic’s sales and marketing resources to or better than budget
  • Provide prompt, thorough, and accurate information as requested by the corporate financial team
  • Assist in setting and work to achieve sales margins and project revenue goals

Human Resources Support (where required)

  • Support local recruitment and contracting of future team resourcing
  • Support local employee development and training

Community Relationships

  • Participate in applicable professional and trade associations to further the corporate objectives of the Company
  • Assure that Nomodic and its purpose, values, programs, and services are consistently presented in a strong, positive image to relevant stakeholders
  • Actively advocate for Nomodic in line with the corporate beliefs, values, and policies
  • Act as a liaison between Nomodic and the community, building relationships with peer organizations when appropriate


Programmatic Effectiveness

  • Assist the corporate team in the design, delivery and quality of products and services
  • Stay abreast of current trends related to Nomodic’s products and services and anticipate future trends likely to have an impact on its work
  • Take an active social media role in promoting the industry and Nomodic specifically
  • Collect and analyze information that measures the success of Nomodic’s program efforts; recommend refinement or change opportunities for programs




  • Bachelor degree in a business-related field (or equivalent work experience)
  • Experience in construction and industrial markets is considered an asset
  • Experience in working with key supply accounts, such as fabricators/manufacturers is considered an asset
  • Any directly related certifications are considered an asset


Skills and Experience

  • 5+ years of related industry experience
  • Minimum of 3 to 5+ years of account management experience
  • Experience with design-build project delivery is experience is considered an asset
  • Experience working with architects and engineers is considered an asset

  • Understanding of the principles of economics; fundamentals of the oil & gas, construction, and real estate industries
  • Acts professionally and in a trustworthy and respectful manner
  • High standards of ethical conduct; ensuring the preservation of confidential and/or sensitive information
  • Understanding of accounting principles; ability to read and interpret financial statements and reports
  • Advanced time management skills
  • Salesforce experience is considered an asset
  • High proficiency in MS Office
  • Adobe suite experience considered an asset
  • Excellent written and verbal English skills
